History of Saint Andrew United Methodist Church

In 1962, 25 families set out from First United Methodist Church of Santa Maria to share the good news of Jesus Christ, and to start a new church in the growing Southern end of the Santa Maria Valley.

The Bishop of the Southern California-Arizona Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church appointed Mike Winstead as pastor.

A committee was formed and met in September 1962, at the former parsonage. One of the actions taken was to agree upon a name for our church. Since no other church had so honored St. Andrew, that name was chosen.

Sunday, October 14, 1962, was our first worship service. It was held in a roller rink which was located near the intersection of Orcutt Expressway and Airport Way. January 1963 was the official organizational chartering date, followed by an all church potluck and celebration. Attending this celebration were 113 charter members.

The current sanctuary was built in 1990 and an administrative wing was added to it in 1998.  We are 279 members strong with an average worship attendance of 142. Our two services are relevant and inspiring with excellent music and thematic spiritual experiences.

Saint Andrew United Methodist Church has become very active in the community, hosting the Happy Hollow Preschool, The St. Andrew Academy of Music, the recent addition of a drama troupe, and continues to operate an after school youth center, while school is in session at it's "accross the street neighbor," Righetti High School.

Praise, prayer, worship, fellowship, education and service are all vital ministries at Saint Andrew UMC. We invite you to join us as we walk in faith together, with one another and with Christ Jesus.
